U14 Ladies Football
Well done to the U14 Ladies Football team who defeated Ballyhaunis Community School in the preliminary round of Connacht on Thursday. This was a very even contest which could have gone either way. We went into an early lead but Ballyhaunis fought back and at half time we were leading 1-3 to 1-1. We got another goal after the break and a point to lead by six points. However Ballyhaunis got two goals in quick succession and then added on two points. We got another point and then they added a point. Heading into the final two minutes we were down by two points. Only a goal would do. Up stepped Alia Naughton and fired a goal into the back of the net after some great outfield work. Referee Sandra Shanagher blew the final whistle and both sides rushed to her to see who had won. There were scenes of great joy and celebration as Ballygar were announced as winners 3-5 to 3-4. We now play in the Connacht quarter-final the week after midterm.
